What is a neighbourhood development plan?
Why have a neighbourhood development plan?
Neighbourhood planning provides the opportunity for communities to set out a positive vision for how they want their community to develop over the next ten, fifteen, twenty years in ways that meet identified local need and make sense for local people. They can put in place planning policies that will help deliver that vision or grant planning permission only for the development they want to see. Neighbourhood planning provides a powerful set of tools for local people to plan for the types of development to meet their community’s needs.
What can’t we do with the neighbourhood development plan?
We cannot produce a plan that has no development or blocks development that has already been permitted or identified through the Local Plan. The committee cannot make up a plan, it has to ask the public, through questionnaires and consultation events and produces evidence on what the majority of the public want to see.
